It Never Mattered To You

I was pacing around my living room. He said that he'd be home o time this time. And it was three in the morning. He was an hour and a half later. I paced and paced some more. When I heard the front door open, I ran to it. He walked through the door, closing it quietly. "Harry Edward Styles!" He jumped and spun around, his eyes meeting mine. I folded my arms over my chest. "Oh, um...hey..." Harry said with a sheepish smile. I raised an eyebrow at him. "You are an hour and a half later. Where were you!?" "Traffic and the guys wanted something to eat quick and I thought you'd already be in bed by now." I dropped my arms with a sigh. "Well now that you worried me sick..." He hung up his coat and hugged me. "But I'm home now." I hugged him back. "Yes, you are." I stepped back and slapped his chest. "Next time, call me." He laughed. "Ok, ok." I shook my head and walked into the kitchen. "Brothers...what are you gonna do with them?" I mumbled, digging in the fridge. "You hungry Niall?" Harry teased me. "Yes. I knew you were coming home today so I ate breakfast at 10 and nothing else for the rest of the day so if  you'll excuse me..." I pulled out a Pepsi, ham and cheese. "It's three a.m." "And you guys stopped for food at two a.m and didn't call me." He sighed. "You're gonna hold this over my head for a while, aren't you." I pulled bread off the shelf and turned to him. "Of course I am." Harry shook his head. "Well, I'm going to bed. I have off tomorrow." "Night. Love you!" "Yeah, ok," he muttered walking down the hall. I smirked to myself. As much as I loved my brother, I loved teasing him. But as he didn't go to school since he was in One Direction, I had to. Lucky for me, I'm graduating this year. Actually, in two months. And I had school tomorrow. Yay me. I sat on the couch with my sandwich. I ate it and laid on the couch, thinking. Before I knew it, I fell asleep.

My phone started blaring Midnight Memories, from their new album. I groaned. My Midnight Memories alarm meant that it was five a.m. Two hours of sleep. I rolled over and fell onto the floor. Forgot I was on the couch. I just laid there. Can I just skip school? As I thought about the idea, I decided against it. I dressed, ate and got all my stuff together for school by five-thirty. I headed outside to school. School didn't start until seven, but I liked being there early. I can prepare myself for the bullies. At the end of my street, someone tapped my shoulder. I turned and saw Liam. "Liam? What are you doing up? And why are you out here?" He smiled at me, "Because I knew that you'd get here at five-thirty and I thought you'd like to see me." I smiled back. "Yes, I haven't seen you all for three months. But you only got two hours of sleep. And again, why aren't you in disguise or something?" He shrugged. "I'm just walking with you to school and no one is usually up this early besides school kids. And you stayed up until we cam home, didn't you?" I kept walking and nodded. "Some days, I just wanna skip school." He nudged my shoulder. "Eh, it's two months left." "Which means even more work. They think seniors are able to do more. I mean, we CAN, but we don't wanna. And besides...." I trailed off. No one knew I got bullied. "Besides what?" Liam questioned. Darn it. "Besides, we like to have fun too." He nodded. Phew, he bought it. Finally, we got to school. "Well, see you later Grace." "See ya Liam." He turned to walk back home. I sat down on the bench. I had an hour until the doors opened.

Seven finally rolled around and I walked in. I found my locker and dug my stuff out and went to my classroom. Mr. Greene was sitting at his desk. "Hello Grace." I smiled. "Hello Mr. Greene." It was funny. The teachers knew me better than any of the kids in this school. I sat down and pulled out my notebook. It held all my drawings. Again, no one knew I drew. Not even Harry. I touched up this drawing and that one. They took my forever to draw. But this is one that I'm really proud of. It took my for-ev-er to draw and I loved the movie. Soon, class started and I slipped my notebook away.

School FINALLY ended. I texted Harry and 'said that I'd be home later. I'm going to the park.' I reread it and found that I sent it to Zayn. So I also said, 'oops, sorry. Can  text that to Harry?' He texted back. 'Sure, it's ok.' I sat on the bench in the park. I opened my notebook and touched up the drawing I was working on that reminded me of Liam. And this one reminded me of Harry. I was flipping through drawing after drawing after drawing, touching them up. "Oh look!" That voice made me freeze. Janet Waters. She hated my guts and I don't know why. I looked up. "Hello Janet." She sneered. "What are you doing?" "Nothing," I mumbled, closing my notebook. As I went to put it back in my backpack, she ripped it from my hands. "Hey! Give that back!" She held it out of my reach and started looking at it. "Janet!" "Oh, you draw?" She sounded interested and Is topped struggling. "Yeah." "Nice..." She got an evil look in her eye and before I could do anything, she started tearing the pictures of of the notebook. She tore them in half and let them fall to the ground. She dropped the rest of the notebook. "Bye!" And she walked away like nothing happened. I knelt down and picked up the halves. Sadness filled me as I matched up the halves. Quickly, I went to the back of my notebook. I sighed. She didn't find my pictures of Zayn. I developed a crush on him over the years. Of course, I was never gonna TELL him, but whatever. I put the notebook back in my backpack and held the halves. Tears started to run down my cheeks. Footsteps walked up to me. "Haven't you done enough damage Janet?" "Oh my..." I looked up. Zayn. Quickly, I wiped my eyes and turned over the halves. "No...I wanna see them." I sat back on the bench as he sat next to me. "There's nothing to look at anymore." "May I see them?" I handed him the halves.

~Zayn's POV~
I put the pieces together and stared at them. These were good. Like, better than good. "Did you draw these Grace?" She nodded, staring at her shoes. Her red hair hung in her face. Whoever Janet was really hurt her. "Are you gonna tape them?" "It won't be the same." "But they'll still be there." Her green eyes looked into mine. "It doesn't matter if I tape them or not. Drawing is the only thing that I'm proud of and I don't tell anyone about it. If I do, I'm afraid they'll make me draw this or that or judge me. Just throw them away. I'll draw more. Drawing is supposed to be fun and I don't want it used against me." She stood up and left, holding her backpack close to her. I knew that Janet really bothered her. I'd have to ask about it. Drawing really WAS important to her but there's gotta be more that she's proud of. I watched her until I couldn't see her. Grace was a worrier. She worried about school. About time. About us. She'd freak out if we weren't wearing a disguise in public and stuff like that. But there's more she should be proud of. I walked back home and put the halves in a drawer. I'd fix them. I had to.

~Normal POV~
I went home and plopped on the couch. Staring at my backpack, I thought. Harry walked in the room. "Harry?" He looked at me. "Yeah? Hey, what's wrong?" I shook my head. "Nothing. But I feel like I should move out. You know?" He nodded and sat next to me. "C-can I borrow some money? I-I swear I'll pay you back when I graduate and get a job." Harry smiled at me. "Sure, but don't pay me back." "No, Harry yo-" "Grace. I don't want you money." I nodded. "Thank you Harry." He kissed my head as I hugged him. "Of courses."

*Two months later*

I sat in my own house. It was lonely without Harry, but I guess that I need my space, just like he does. I spun the keys around on my finger. My house was just down the block from Niall's. We all lived around each other. It was kinda funny and weird. I kinda missed school, but I didn't have to see Janet anymore. I still never told them I was bullied or beat up and Zayn never told that I drew, which I was thankful for. I got really close to my art teacher, Mr. Jones. He sent me a text. 'Hello Grace. I know it's weird for your former teacher to be texting you, but I have a question.' I sent back 'Haha, it's ok Mr. Jones. What is it?' 'Well, next year we want to have art on display and yours is some of the best I've seen I was wondering if you'd paint or draw something for the display. I wouldn't need it for five months.' I smiled. 'Sure, can I get it to you earlier if needed?' 'Of course! And can you do two? One of a person and one of a landscape?' 'Of course I can! Thanks for the heads up. I'll give them both to you at the same time.' 'Great, thank you so much. You can drop them off at my house.' He texted me his address. Well, my summer wasn't gonna be boring now but I had to tell them if I was gonna draw. Sighing, I pushed myself up. We're all meeting tonight because they go on tour in two days for two months.

I took a deep breath and knocked on Louis's door. I could feel the drawing in my pocket. Why is this a big deal? Because I haven't told anyone ever and I was nervous. Louis opened the door. "Grace!" he hugged me and I laughed. "Hello Louis." I walked in with him. We sat and talked for a while and I glanced at Zayn. He seemed to know what I was gonna do. He gave me a subtle nod. Biting my lip I said, "Guys, I gotta show you something." I pulled out the folded picture and handed it to Liam. He opened it slowly. He looked up at me. "Did you draw this?" I nodded. He passed it around. Zayn smiled when he got it.  He handed it back to me. "How long?" Harry asked. "About five years now." "Why didn't you tell us?!? It's amazing!" Louis said. I blushed. "Thanks." Zayn smiled at me. "I still can't believe that you can draw like this." I smiled. "Neither can I, believe me." "Oh, Grace!" Harry said, getting excited. "Yes Harry?" He smiled. "You can come on tour with us!" I gasped. "No way." "Way," Liam chimed in. I smiled. "Wow."

*Two days later*

Sitting in the car, I was so excited. "Jeez Grace," Harry said. I laughed. "I can't help it! After watching y'all tour for three years, I wanna know what it's like!" Louis laughed. "It's great. Glad you can come along." "Me too. Because I can stay backstage and draw the concert." They gave me a look. "I have this project my art teacher asked me to do. He asked if I'd draw a landscape picture for an art display. I said I would. And what better than a concert?" Soon we got to the concert, set everything up and it was starting. I sat backstage, peeking through the curtain to draw. "Can we welcome my sister?" Harry said. I looked up shocked and Zayn and Niall walked back. "Bring your art," Niall whispered. I puled my stand along as I stood in the middle of the stage. "Wow," I breathed. "So, she gets this job. Her art teacher asked her to paint a landscape scene and she decides to paint the concert scene," Liam explained. The crowd cheered. "Let us see," Zayn said. My eyes widened. Harry handed me a microphone. "I-it's not done yet. I'm not done getting the colors." "Show us anyway!" Louis said. They got the crowd to chant 'Show us!' So I turned around the painting. They all cheered. "That's really good," Liam said. "What did I tell you all?" Harry said, smiling proudly. I took my painting back, touched up the rest and set it to dry.

After the concert, I went back to my picture. I smiled. "I like it, good." A hand rested on my shoulder. "You did great sis." "Thanks. I'm proud of it." In my head, I though 'one down, one to go.' I wanted to paint Zayn. I'd ask him secretly.

~Zayn's POV~
Grace was really excited when we went onstage for the next concert. She was gonna be the crazed fan that ran onstage. We checked it over with security to 'hold' her back but let her go. She took her spot up front and two songs into the concert, she 'broke though' the guards and jumped onstage. The rest was up to her. We never reversed lines. She just stood there, looking around as we stopped singing. She walked over to Niall and took his microphone. Wow, they're good actors. Security was moving out to get her, like we planned. "Wow...I'm onstage." She turned the microphone over in her hands. "Niall's microphone. Wow." She fanned herself with her hand. She turned around. A huge smile spread over her face. "Wow! It's you!" She hugged all of us. "Um...you shouldn't be up here," Liam said. "I don't care. I wanted to meet you." Security came out. "I'm not going that easy." I moved out of her way as she ran past me. This was funny. I could see a few people in the crowd whisper to each other. Even though she was wearing a long black wig, you could see it in her face that it was Harry's sister. She jumped over the railing. Grace pulled herself as high on the rails as she could get. As the guards surrounded her, she pulled off her wig and said into Niall's microphone. "I love all you guys!" The crowd cheered and the guards left. I laughed and she dropped from the bars and I caught her. She smiled at me and I set her down. She handed Niall's microphone back. I handed her a headset since she wouldn't be here long. "Sorry, I like pranks. But I could see some of you kew it was me anyway. Nice," she said.
